Algorithmic Music Composition
نویسنده
چکیده
Algorithmic composition was already popular before the rise of the computer. In the Renaissance, dice based composition games were popular. In such game, a composition was stitched together from different fragments, where selection and order of these fragments was decided by the roll of a dice. Then, in 1957 Hiller and Isaacson [8] were the first to make a computer generate a musical composition. They used a computer of the University of Illinois to generate a composition for a string quartet.

Algorithmic Composition: Computational Thinking in Music DRAFT
Despite the still-prevalent but essentially nineteenth century perception of the Western creative artist, an algorithmic approach to music composition has been in evidence in Western classical music for at least one thousand years. The history of algorithmic composition—from both before and after the invention of the digital computer—will be presented along with specific techniques and musical ...

متن کاملComputer models for algorithmic composition
algorithmic composition models used in the domain of systems generating music compositions are presented in the paper. Moreover, the model based on the transition matrix of music events (music patterns described by notes, measures and durations) and classification of the instrumental parts appearing in the input music work is presented. An exemplary implementation of the model is described usin...
متن کاملAlgorithmic Composition of Contrapuntal Music
For this project, your goal is to implement a program that writes music in contrapuntal style, since this form is so fundamentally algorithmic. Contrapuntal music, also called counterpoint, is a structure of musical composition that originated in the Renaissance and was developed extensively in Baroque and Classical music, particularly in canons and fugues written by Bach and Mozart. Many speci...
متن کاملExtra-Music(ologic)al Models for Algorithmic Composition
It is proposed in this paper that in designing algorithmic composition systems it may be useful to consider the important characteristics of music from the listeners’ perspective, rather than the analysts. In doing so the fundamental dynamic nature of music, which is lost in transcription, becomes apparent. Initial explorations of dynamical systems are presented as a means of producing a sense ...
